Affordable Housing
Tyson has recently completed the construction of 8 family affordable houses in Blackpool to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5, using closed “SIP” timber panels. This was a design and build project and as such it was Tyson’s responsibility to co-ordinate the design team and the sub-contractors.
Carbon Footprint
As part of Tyson’s corporate strategy photovoltaic units have been fitted to the roof of its Head Quarters in Blackpool, which generates power to offset the Company’s carbon footprint and has recently installed a power plant to generate heat and power for its Head Quarters fuelled by wood pellets derived from waste from its on-site joinery workshop.
Economical Homes
Through experience working on a number of schemes committed to reaching different levels of Code for Sustainable Homes, Tyson have established a clear strategy to achieve sustainable developments in the most economical way whilst providing the end user with a simple cost effective home to live in.
Environmental Friendly Construction
Utilising modern methods in the construction
Tyson have shown a capacity and willingness to utilise modern methods in the construction of its Registered Provider affordable housing programme. In the process of constructing over 300 timber frame houses, Tyson have gained considerable experience. Tyson have embraced new innovative technologies such as sprayed insulation, mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems, thermal solar water heating and photovoltaic units. Through experience working on a number of schemes committed to reaching different levels of Code for Sustainable Homes, Tyson have established a clear strategy to achieve sustainable developments in the most economical way whilst providing the end user with a simple cost effective home to live in.
An affordable housing development in Kearsley was a finalist in two categories of the Best Social Housing Development and Best Sustainable Development North West Local Authority Building Control awards. An example of innovation on this project was the use of sprayed insulation in the external walls. The product used was being trialled in the UK for the first time having been an established product in Canada for many years. The advantage of the product was the enhanced air tightness achieved in comparison to more traditional rigid board insulation whilst also saving time on site and reducing on-site waste. By using mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems code level 3 was achieved without the use of renewable energy.
