6th Form Centre and Infrastructure Upgrade
Bolton School is one of the oldest schools in Lancashire which can be traced back to 1516, when it was recorded as being a going concern. Over the last 10 years, the School have had a new build strategy with new builds including; Infants Block, Junior Boys and Junior Girls Blocks. The new 6th Form Centre, completed September 2013 has been constructed in the main courtyard, for which all the School main infrastructure services required upgrading / diverting. The new 6th Form Centre provides state of the art facilities for the students. The building incorporates study areas, comms room, cafe, meeting rooms, offices, welfare facilities and also acts as the central hub for the site.
Beech Jackson Partnership were appointed as the Building Services Engineers for the traditionally procured 7.4m new build and 350K enabling works project.
Beech Jackson Partnership carried out an initial survey which identified that the existing electrical distribution and supply authority transformer was overloaded. An enabling works package was developed to upgrade the electrical supply to the School and divert the main services over the summer holidays of 2011. Within this timeframe, Beech Jackson Partnership coordinated the new substation and associated submain upgrade. Diversion of the United Utilities water mains, National Grid gas main and a number of IT services were completed.
The works were compounded by the Schools Sports and Conference Centre having weddings booked for each weekend during the summer holiday period. This imposed a requirement for all trench work to be backfilled and made presentable for wedding functions and pictures.
